My Favorite Nourishing Hot Beverages
Mar 11, 2025
There’s not much that a hot cup of something yummy and healing can’t fix, ESPECIALLY when you’re feeling stuck, frustrated, about to lose your S on your kids because everyone’s screaming at the same time and the house is a mess and dinner hasn’t been prepped and there’s 476722 things on the to do list that haven’t been done and the garbage is overflowing and I forgot to advance the laundry and oh crap my credit card payment is due today and OMG I CAN’T I CAN’T I CAN’T!!!
Sometimes when I feel like I’m about to blow the lid off, I stop. I pause. I take a deep breath. And I walk over to the tea kettle, turn it on, brew up some hot water, get a saucepan of raw milk simmering, and decide right there amidst the chaos and the insanity and the LIFE of it all, that a hot beverage is the exact thing I need in this moment to not lose my S.
Sure, a hot drink won’t pay your credit card bills or get the items on your to do list checked off or stop your kids from crying.
But it WILL give you a few minutes to decompress.
It WILL fill your empty tank.
It WILL force you to take a moment for yourself to refill your own cup.
It WILL nourish your body and spirit for a few minutes.
It’s my greatest mom hack – taking 5 minutes to whip myself up a yummy hot beverage. I like the heat because I enjoy how something hot feels in my belly. It connects me to my body, which I love.
THERE IS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT HAVING A HOT BEVERAGE IN HAD THAT ALLOWS YOU A MOMENT OF SLOWNESS, STILLNESS, AND STEADINESS.
I can’t recommend a daily hot beverage enough. Especially when your patience is thin, your nerves are fried, and you don’t know which thing to do next on your never ending list of things to do.
*Hint. Don’t do any of them. At least not right this second. Take a moment, enjoy your drink, connect with your babies, and take the moment to yourself to refuel and recharge!
My Favorite Hot Beverages
Herbal tea blends with mineralizing herbs (nettles, oatstraw, red raspberry leaf, chamomile, red clover, hibiscus, rose hips, horsetail, alfalfa, yellow dock)
Bone Broth (homemade preferred, but I love this one for a quick drink with ghee and a little sea salt!)
Warm raw milk with an egg yolk, colostrum & a dash of cinnamon
Green Jasmine tea
Grated ginger + lemon + lavender + honey
Grated apple + cardamom pods + cinnamon stick + honey
Grated pear + lemon + mint + honey
Hot apple cider with clove, cinnamon and orange peel
(for the grated fruit & herb concoctions, I just add all the ingredients to a tea carafe or a french press, pour hot water over it, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then I add the honey after its steeped)
