Hi Friends!
My name is Emily Anne Woodward, and I am a Holistic Health and Wellness Coach, Registered Nurse of 13 years, an I-ACT Certified Colon Hydrotherapist, a Functional Nutrition Practitioner, and a Root Cause Protocol Consultant.
I have had such a crazy amazing journey in the healing arts throughout the years, and if you had told me 13 years ago when I started all of this that I would be where I am today, I would have laughed and thought YOU were the crazy one!
LET ME TELL YOU HOW I GOT HERE...
I have always had a passion for healing, and I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a nurse.
I was completely in love with biology, science, and the human body and I totally loved people. How amazing, that there actually existed a career that combined the things that I was good at AND things that I loved and had a natural talent for!
Right out of nursing school, I applied for a job at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland because I had heard somewhere that it was a good hospital, so I thought why not! Let's give this a try :) I then spent the next 4 years in one of their surgical ICUs living out in real time my wildest nursing dreams.
I was the nurse who would get stupid excited about hanging IV fluids.
And giving a patient a real live bed bath (you know, with soap and water, not that CHG bath nonsense!)
And changing a central line dressing.
And silly things like labeling my tubing (fellow RNs out there I KNOW you know what I am talking about!)
And to be honest, I didn't even really mind doing the dirty nursing work that was basically a non-negotiable, and dealing with all the things that come along with being a nurse in the ICU. It was all so wonderful. I adored every little bit of it.
It barely felt like work, and there were times I couldn't believe they were paying me to do this, I just loved it that much.
I left my staff job at Hopkins in 2013 to become a travel nurse. Eventually my travels led me to beautiful Southern California where my life changed profoundly in two big ways:::
First and foremost— I met the most amazing and wonderful man on the planet in a bar in Newport Beach on New Years Eve. There went the rest of my travel plans, haha! And this man is now my husband and I cannot believe that there is someone as wonderful as he that exists in real life. He is the absolute light of my life ❤
And secondly — I started to meet people in the holistic health and wellness space that knew things ...
... that knew incredible, record-scratching, mind-boggling things about actually truly heal a body and restoring vibrant health.
Things like the real, timeless power of whole foods.
And the gut microbiome.
And the importance of optimal gut health.
And the power of the sunlight.
And the long-standing impacts of chronic stress.
And the healing power behind Emotional Freedom Technique.
And the ugly truth about seed oils and the damaging effects PUFAs have on our metabolism.
And how to eat in ways that provide you the most maximal nutritional benefit.
And the unparalleled importance of minerals and how they are the currency of the body.
And the truth about non-native EMFs.
And things like iron overload being the real reason behind oxidative stress.
And herbs for healing.
And the difference between WHOLE FOOD nutritional supplementation, rather than petroleum-crude oil-derived synthetics that have NO place in a balanced diet.
And how regeneration of the human body and the reversal of disease is absolutely possible...
Y'all. I was witnessing people healing their chronic diseases naturally through food and lifestyle alone, while getting off their pharmaceuticals and completely healing their bodies.
My mind was completely blown.
I remember having the following thought shortly after finding all this out --
"I missed that day in nursing school..."
Actually, no I didn't. I didn't miss that day in nursing school. They don't TEACH this in nursing school. And they definitely don't teach this in medical school. Allopathy is not a paradigm built on teaching a body how to heal; it is built on pharmaceuticals and surgery, both of which may have a time and a place, but that's a conversation for another day.
I started to see things completely differently, through the lens of "holy freaking cow, we can literally heal anything!"
(I have to say here ... that this outlook is not always shared or appreciated in allopathic settings)
After uncovering all of this incredible information, a few things became very clear to me:
FOOD AND MINERALS ARE POWERFUL AND PLAY KEY ROLES IN HEALING OUR BODY.
OUR MINDSET & THOUGHTS ARE EITHER GIVING LIFE TO OUR HEALING OR DERAILING OUR EFFORTS ENTIRELY.
THE INNATE WISDOM OF THE BODY IS TO HEAL, IF WE PROVIDE IT WITH THE RAW MATERIALS TO DO SO.
And then it began ... the slow unraveling of my comfort in my role as a nurse, my place in "health" care, and my confidence that I was actually taking part in what I set out to do all those years ago -- help people heal.
What started as dis-resonance with the medical system morphed into a full blown identity/purpose crisis that compounded with each passing day.
I became extremely unfulfilled in nursing, and I grew more and more uncomfortable in the hospital, and I felt stifled and stuck, angry and frustrated, and honestly just very heartbroken most of the time.
I felt so disconnected, and I knew that for the sake of my own health and sanity, I had to leave the allopathic paradigm, as I no longer believed in it as the one and only path to wellness.
I hung up my stethoscope for good in September 2021, and now I have a nutrition & health coaching practice that centers around the body's innate power and ability to heal.
Now I help people live happier, healthier, more more abundant and balanced lives through food, lifestyle, self-care, self love, living in alignment with their true purpose, and breaking free from a system that benefits when people are sick.
Everything I offer to my clients is a compilation of years of experience, knowledge, unlearning/relearning/de-programming, and integrating all of it into my programs and sessions in ways that work profoundly and deeply, in ways that I can't even articulate.
I will always be a nurse.
I will always draw from my nursing career and experiences.
But more so than any of that, I am a lifelong learner and a forever student.
I am continually unlearning and relearning many of the most staunchly held behaviors and beliefs instilled in us that relate to everything we have ever been taught about health and wellness.
And I will always hold space in my heart with love, compassion, and unconditional acceptance for every single human being who trusts me with their care.
My life has taken a turn toward truth, sovereignty, and empowerment, and this allows me to pursue my SOUL work: health coaching, nutrition, educating, creating, consulting, and empowering people to take radical responsibility for their health and happiness.
Every step and misstep was in the direction of this magical place I am in right now. I am so lucky to spend my days doing what I love and helping people realize their true wellness potential!
When I'm not health coaching or creating, you can find me:
--> Cooking, reading probably 4 different books at the same time, yoga-ing, meditating, sunning, taking baths, probably watching Titanic for the 47,000th time, walking barefoot around my neighborhood, listening to Taylor, hiking or skiing somewhere in the beautiful Sierras, journaling like a madwoman, traveling back to IL to be with my wonderful family, or adventuring with my one and only Boo, my best friend, my rock, my biggest fan, and the most wonderful man who ever was.
Thank you for being here with me today and listening to my story! I'm honored you stopped by and can't wait to see what we have to learn from each other :)
CONNECT WITH ME TO SEE HOW I CAN HELP YOUKNOWLEDGEABLE
Having been in the nursing world for over 13 years, I have a solid knowledge base of the human body and many pathologies. My nursing career has provided an incredible foundation to maximize my expertise in how to support the whole person, body mind and spirit. This is also crucial because nursing has given me a thorough understanding of more challenging client situations, therefore I am able to refer them to appropriate clinicians who are more apt to help with their issues if things are out of my scope. Having worked directly with many physicians in my decade of nursing, I also love partnering with physicians in my health coaching practice to help provide my clients with a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to their health. My nursing background allows me to recognize when the skills of a physician are more appropriate for the client. I have found that physicians trust my assessment skills and discernment.
EMPATHETIC
I feel very deeply for the people I care for. I'm the person who will rejoice in your triumphs and cry with you when you are hurt. Nursing has given me thousands of opportunities to simply "be" with people, in their vulnerabilities and their successes, in literal life and death. This translates to my health coaching practice because I'm not afraid to let emotions come about or be part of the beautiful process that is health coaching -- self discovery, challenging meaningful work, and lasting transformation.
PERSONABLE
I'm friendly, approachable, likeable, and genuine. I have an ability to connect with many different people in many different ways, and I do that by listening, creating space for people to be their true selves, and also in sharing my true self in the process. I am in it with the client, providing love and support and guidance from a non-judgmental place. I don’t care how cheesy this sounds, but with me you not only get a health coach, but you get a true dear friend.
PASSIONATE
Sometimes I feel like another word for passionate is "crazy" haha... and call me crazy but everything I've ever been truly passionate about, I've given my whole heart to: nursing, health coaching, colon therapy, nutrition, self care, self discovery, balance, learning and unlearning. And I know that this passion translates to my health coaching practice and to my clients. That's how I always knew that THIS is the work I was put on this planet to do -- because I get all fluttery and sweaty and excited in a way that feels like I have no words for! My heart is my guide, and that is what I give to the people I work with: my whole heart.
